Best Quirky Food Spot in D.C.: Fast Gourmet

Best Quirky Food Spot in D.C.: Fast Gourmet

It was a little over a month ago that I was first exposed to Fast Gourmet.  I saw a reader's note on Prince of Petworth's blog about a gourmet sandwich shop hidden inside of a "sketchy gas station" at the corners of 14th and W Streets in Northwest.

I was intrigued, but not yet convinced enough to try it out.  I mean, come on, good food in a gas station?  That's an oxymoron.  I needed more evidence.  So I went on Yelp to read more customer reviews, and what I saw...was astonishing.

Each review was more positive than last.  Each described how bizarre the location was, but also, how delicious the food was.

The IHOP will be open 24 hours, so it should provide the greater Columbia Heights community with a great late-night eatery.

Which brings us to our poll of the week:

Moroni & Brother's on Georgia Avenue Serves Up Incredible Pizza at Reasonable Prices

When I first heard of Moroni & Brother's restaurant on Georgia Avenue, I was a tad bit skeptical.

Word on the street was that this small nook of a food joint served not only incredible wood-fire pizza, but also delicious Mexican and El Salvadorian fare.  In general, pizza and Latin American cuisine do not go together, but the claims were that at Moroni & Brother's, they made it work.

After eating there, I can testify that they do make it work.  And that's an understatement.

I tasted the basic cheese pizza and it was magnificent.  I would honestly go so far as to say it might be the best pizza I've had in the city.  The pizza was thin-crust style, and was smothered with really high quality cheese.

But the party in my mouth didn't end there.
